Fire Safety Within The Workplace, Who is Responsible?
Who is responsible for fire safety within the workplace..? The quick answer to this is “you are responsible for the fire safety in a business or any other non-domestic premises if you are:
- An employer, the business owner, a landlord, or anyone else with control of the premises, for example a facilities manager, building manager, managing agent or risk assessor.
You are known as the “responsible person” and if there are more than one “responsible person” you will have to work together to meet all of you fire marshal responsibilities. The Fire Safety Order also applies if you have paying guests, for example if you run a guest house, or bed and breakfast, or even if you let a property.
As the responsible person within a building you must complete the following:
- Carry out a fire risk assessment of the premises and review it regularly
- Tell staff or their representatives about the risks you’ve identified
- Put in place and maintain, appropriate fire safety measures
- Plan for an emergency situation
- Provide staff information, fire safety instruction and appropriate training

Registration and Start
Our fire marshal online training course is conducted using video based instruction and each fire training video can be paused or rewound to gain a better understanding of the course content and structure.
Once you have registered for our e-learning fire marshal course you will be assigned your own secure training area and once you have successfully completed your course you will be able to print your fire marshal certification.
