You are known as the “responsible person” and if there are more than one “responsible person” you will have to work together to meet all of you fire marshal responsibilities. The Fire Safety Order also applies if you have paying guests, for example if you run a guest house, or bed and breakfast, or even if you let a property.
As the responsible person within a building you must complete the following:
- Carry out regular fire risk assessments of the premises and review regularly
- Tell staff or their representatives about the risks you have identified
- Maintain, appropriate fire safety measures
- Plan for emergency situations
- Provide staff information, fire safety instruction and appropriate training
